Imilayezo kaSithunywa

Messages from the Messenger

Event Overview

Imilayezo kaSithunywa (Messages from the Messenger) is a solo Poetry In Art exhibition by award-winning poet and visual artist Kwazi Ndlangisa, founder of Imilolozelo (formerly IKhambi Writers Hub). This multidisciplinary exhibition explores the space between two worlds—the living and the departed—through the fusion of poetry and visual art.

The exhibition brings together ink and paint, word and image, the seen and the unseen. Each piece carries a message—from ancestors, from the earth, from the quiet places within—waiting to be received by those who are ready to listen.

About the Exhibition

Imilayezo kaSithunywa is not a typical art exhibition. It is an invitation—to pause, to receive, to listen for messages that may have been waiting a long time to reach you.

Kwazi Ndlangisa describes the work:

"These pieces came to me in moments of quiet—between waking and sleeping, between writing and silence, between this world and the next. I don't always know where they come from. I only know I am the messenger, not the source. My role is to receive and to share."

The exhibition features:

  • Original paintings combining text and image

  • Poetry presented as visual art

  • Interactive elements inviting viewer response

  • Limited edition prints available for purchase

Curator

Mbalimale Mlimela brings her vision and expertise to the exhibition as curator. Her careful eye and deep understanding of both visual art and poetry have shaped the exhibition into a cohesive, immersive experience.

Why "Imilayezo kaSithunywa"?

The title speaks to the heart of the work.

Imilayezo – Messages. Not announcements or declarations, but messages—intimate, personal, meant for someone willing to receive them.

KaSithunywa – Of the messenger. Kwazi sees himself not as the origin of these works, but as a messenger, carrying something from somewhere else to those who need to receive it.

Together, the title asks: What messages are waiting for you? And are you ready to receive them?

About the Artist

Kwazi Ndlangisa is the winner of the Sol Plaatje European Union Poetry Award 2021, the SA Literary Award 2024, and the Mail & Guardian 200 Young South Africans 2024. He is the author of Collecting Self (poetry) and Vukani Kusile (children's book), and his poems have been featured in Imbiza Journal, New Coin Poetry Magazine, and numerous anthologies.

As a visual artist, Kwazi's work explores the intersection of word and image, text and texture, the seen and the felt. Imilayezo kaSithunywa is his first solo exhibition.
